The Union of Municipalities of Montenegro will, in the coming period, through continuous cooperation with the Ministry of Social Welfare, Family Care and Demography, enhance support mechanisms for young people without parental care in ensuring their successful transition to independent living.
This was agreed at a meeting between the Secretary General of the Union of Municipalities of Montenegro, Mišela Manojlović, and the Minister of Social Welfare, Family Care and Demography, Damir Gutić, during which they reviewed the results of the implementation of the Support Programme for Young People without Parental Care, which had been carried out by the Union in the previous period, with institutional and professional support from the Ministry.
The discussion also addressed activities aimed at improving support for young people in the process of becoming independent after leaving the Children’s Home “Mladost”.
Damir Gutić supported the further implementation of the Programme, emphasizing that the system must assume full responsibility for young people leaving institutional care.
“Only through coordinated action by the state and local governments can we ensure sustainable solutions and their secure integration into society,” he stated.
Mišela Manojlović presented the Union’s experience in the implementation of the Programme to date, and it was assessed that this could serve as a solid foundation for designing measures of sustainable and purposeful support for this most vulnerable target group.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary of the Committee for Social Affairs of the Union of Municipalities of Montenegro, Ivana Nedović; the State Secretary at the Ministry, Mersida Aljičević; the Director General of the Directorate for Social Welfare and Family Care, Sabina Muratović; and the Director General of the Directorate for Development and Monitoring of Service Provision, Amela Orahovac.
