The Secretary General of the Union of Municipalities of Montenegro Mišela Manojlović met with the President of the Capital City Assembly Sđanom Perićem, who is also an ex officio member of the Assembly of the Union of Municipalities of Montenegro.
Manojlović briefed her interlocutor on the role of the Union of Municipalities in representing the interests of local governments before central government authorities, as well as international institutions and organizations. She particularly highlighted the importance of continuous dialogue between the central and local levels of government in the preparation of regulations and policies that directly affect the work and functioning of municipalities, as well as the role of the Union’s governing bodies in this process.
The meeting also addressed projects implemented by the Union of Municipalities aimed at improving the local government financing system and strengthening the administrative and professional capacities of municipalities, including municipal assembly councillors, as well as providing support through training, exchange of experience and the application of good practices.
Particular attention was devoted to the organization and functioning of local communities as a direct form of citizen participation in local self-government. The interlocutors highlighted the importance of creating conditions for more active citizen involvement in decision-making on issues of direct relevance to the life and development of their local communities.
Perić expressed his full support for the work of the Union of Municipalities, noting that it represents an effective form of institutional cooperation and joint action by local governments in advocating for their interests.
The interlocutors agreed that continued direct communication and cooperation would contribute to the more efficient functioning of local institutions, stronger representation of municipalities’ needs, and improved quality of services provided to citizens.
