The Union of Municipalities of Montenegro has adopted a decision on the selection of the best practices in local self-government for 2025, with the aim of promoting innovative, sustainable, and efficient solutions in service of citizens. Awards were granted in two thematic areas: citizen participation in decision-making and cooperation in the water services sector.
Best Practices in the Area of Citizen Participation:
- The Municipality of Tivat was awarded for the reorganization of local communities. At the initiative of citizens, and with the full support of the local administration, two new local communities were established, enabling more efficient resolution of local issues and strengthening trust in institutions.
- The Municipality of Šavnik received recognition for the development of a mobile application that enables timely informing of citizens on important issues, especially in crisis situations. The application has been further enhanced as a tool for communication, citizen participation, and tourism development.
Best Practices in the Water Services Sector:
- The Municipality of Budva was recognized for its cooperation with the company “Wastewater” in preventing environmental incidents at the wastewater treatment plant. Through technical improvements, greater safety has been ensured, which has a positive impact on sea quality and public health.
- The Municipality of Pljevlja was awarded for measures to consolidate the company “Vodovod,” including reducing water losses, subsidizing costs, and achieving financial stabilization. Thanks to these measures, for the first time in many years, citizens were not subject to water supply restrictions, and the company operated with a positive financial result.
The awards ceremony will be held on 17 July 2025 in Podgorica, as part of the celebration of the Day of the Union of Municipalities of Montenegro.
