The Montenegrin delegation is participating in the work of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, where the delegates elected the Norwegian Gun Marit Helgesen as the new President of the delegation.
During today’s first day of the plenary session, the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities elected the Norwegian woman as its new President. Gun Marit Helgesen.
“In these challenging times, it is more important than ever to revitalize local and regional democracy, to uphold our values at the level closest to citizens, and to keep Europe united in facing global threats,” Helgesen said.
The Montenegrin delegation includes the President of the Municipality of Budva. Nikola Jovanović, the President of the Municipality of Plav, Nihad Canović, and the Secretary General of the Union of Municipalities of Montenegro (UOMM). Mišela Manojlović“, and the Assistant Secretary General of the UOMM and Secretary of the delegation” Milica Radojičić.
The session of the Congress is also being attended by the President of the Governing Board of the Union of Municipalities of Montenegro and President of the Municipality of Žabljak Radoš Žugić, who will tomorrow, together with the Secretary General, participate on behalf of Montenegrin local self-governments in the ceremonial launch of the implementation of the LORAI programme.
During tomorrow’s plenary session, Nihad Canović will address the members of the Congress on the topic of free elections at the local and regional level, and Nikola Jovanović on the topic of violence against public officials.
The members of the delegation will also participate in the work of the Congress’s key bodies, such as the Monitoring Committee and the Governance Committee, which contribute to the development of policies in the areas of decentralization, financial autonomy, and good governance at the local level.
