As part of the preparations for assuming the position of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Montenegro to the Republic of Kosovo, Ambassador Bernard Čobaj met with representatives of the Union of Municipalities. Ivanom Nedović, Secretary of the Committee for Social Affairs, Marijom Kljajić, Secretary of the Committee for Spatial Planning and Simonom Bošković, Secretary of the Committee for International Cooperation and European Integration.
During the meeting, the representatives of the Union informed the Ambassador that local governments in Montenegro and Kosovo maintain intensive cooperation through the Network of Associations of Local Authorities of South-East Europe (NALAS), of which the Union of Municipalities is a member, through the implementation of regional projects in areas such as social inclusion, sustainable energy and urban mobility, citizen participation in decision-making, and others.
They also presented the publication Bratimljenje, which was published by the Union at the end of last year. Town twinning provides a platform for establishing friendly relations between two cities or municipalities and for maintaining and strengthening cultural and social ties through various cultural, sports and educational activities. They recalled that partnerships based on this principle have so far been established between the Capital City of Podgorica and Pristina, as well as between the municipalities of Ulcinj and Peja, and noted that there is scope for initiating new town-twinning partnerships.
The interlocutors agreed on the need to put these cooperation agreements into practice through concrete activities, particularly cultural events and the promotion of cultural specificities. This would contribute to social cohesion and stronger ties, while encouraging initiatives for closer cooperation through the organization of study visits on various topics for representatives of local governments, enabling them to exchange experiences and good practices.
