Open Days, Brussels- Participation of the Union of Municipalities of Montenegro

photo 2  October 7 2014 -From 6-9 October 2014, some 6,000 representatives from Europe’s regions and cities gathered in Brussels for the 12th annual OPEN DAYS to exchange their views on how making the reformed EU Cohesion Policy a reality for job creation and growth.
Under the slogan “Growing together – Smart investment for people” representatives of EU regional and local authorities met with experts, policy-makers and practitioners from the public and private sectors.
The Union of Municipalities of Montenegro and the Municipality of Kotor, together with 13 partners from Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Greece, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, were partners in Adriatic-Ionian Macroregional Partnership titled EU Strategy for the Adriatic Ionian Region – The Role of the Regions in the Implementation.
The two general objectives of the Strategy are: to promote sustainable economic and social prosperity of the Region through growth and jobs creation, by improving its attractiveness, competitiveness and connectivity, while preserving the environment and ensuring a healthy and balanced marine and coastal ecosystems.
Within the Adriatic-Ionian Macroregional Partnership four panels on four main pillars of the Strategy were organized, i.e: blue growth, connecting the region, environmental quality and sustainable tourism.
One of the panelists for the blue growth was Mrs. Jelena Stjepcevic from Municipality of Kotor, and she was speaking about Cross-border and transnational cooperation of Kotor Municipality (Montenegro) in light of enhancing the development of an integrated Maritime Policy in the Adriatic–Ionian basin.
